Hi Bears families
Start here for summer training.
Use this as the summer start note for Bears Track Club. It covers the calendar, SportsYou, app links, what your athlete needs, and the first-week practice flow.
This takes the place of a long parent meeting. Save this page, then use the shorter weekly notes after the season gets moving.
High school athletes still on their two-week break can jump in when their break is done. If anything in here is confusing, reach out and we will get you sorted out.
If you still need to sign up, late signups are totally okay. Send families the link below and we will help athletes get caught up once they are registered.

Save the calendar page and join SportsYou. Those two places handle almost every practical question.

Know this split
Cubs vs. MS/HS
Cubs do not need the app. Middle school and high school athletes should use the Bears TC app for their training.

This week
Start with Monday and Thursday
Monday and Thursday are for all groups. Saturday team practice is MS/HS only unless SportsYou says otherwise.

If you only do two things
Save the calendar and join SportsYou. Everything else is there when you need it.
1. Training Calendar: practice times, locations, map pins, June/July schedule, OYO days, OFF days, HS-only options, and calendar download links.
2. SportsYou: weather changes, cancellations, location moves, and quick reminders. Code: 2T88-2YKX.
Bears TC App: middle school and high school athletes should check the app for individualized training and paces. Cubs do not need the app.
Practice times: middle / high school is usually 8:15-10:00 AM. Cubs finish at 9:45 AM.

Parent meeting notes
Drop-off and pick-up: meet at the map pin listed on the calendar. Athletes should check in with a coach before leaving.
Parents can stay or leave. Either is totally fine. Just be back by the listed finish time.
If something changes: I will post it on SportsYou. Please treat that as the day-of source.
If your athlete misses: no stress. MS/HS athletes can check the app for training and paces. Cubs can just jump back in at the next practice.

Bears TC App: middle / high school athletes use the app for individualized training and paces. Cubs do not need the app.

OYO by group: Cubs meet for practice on Mondays and Thursdays. Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday are great days for other activities or rest. If they want an extra run, Wednesday and Saturday can be 20-30 minutes easy with a few strides on their own. Saturday team practices are for middle school and high school unless SportsYou says otherwise. Middle school follows the weekly rhythm: Tuesday and Friday are OFF, cross-train, or 20-30 minutes recovery; Wednesday is a little longer foundation run, usually 30-40 minutes with 5 strides; Sunday is OFF. High school athletes should check the app for their full training.

The training calendar page has the full June schedule and the July calendar connected underneath it. Open that page to view both months or add the schedule to Apple / Google Calendar.
The calendar page has Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, and .ics download buttons at the top. SportsYou is still the source of truth for same-day changes.
HS lifting note: Palmer Ridge charges $50 per athlete for summer weight room access. Bears TC is covering that charge for our athletes, so there is no extra payment needed from families, but please understand this is a paid access program.

Ferritin & Iron Guide: mainly for middle/high school families who want to get ferritin checked and send results to Coach Luke.
BSN Sideline Store Update: We have requested deactivation of the Bears Track Club Sideline Store. Team store ordering is currently paused.
The BSN Sideline User Agreement terms discussed with BSN SPORTS are on file, including rebate credit timing, termination language, and monthly promotion requirements.

Luke Rodriguez
Program Director
Luke is a USATF-certified coach, former UCCS runner, and Bears Track Club Program Director. His coaching centers on discipline, data-driven training, and team culture.
|
|
|
Kristi Steeger
Head Cubs Coach
Kristi is in her 9th year coaching Monument Academy's Cross Country and Track & Field teams,
helping athletes earn state championships and several top state rankings. Her goal is to help young
runners build confidence, feel supported and valued, compete well, and develop a love for running that
lasts beyond the season.

Marcela Lopez
Middle / High School Coach
Marcela brings 20 years in the school district and 10 years of coaching to Bears Track Club.
She loves helping athletes build character, stretch their capabilities, and feel confident
being themselves on the course, on the track, and within the team. Her first priority is the
well-being of each athlete.

Maura Paradise
Middle / High School Coach
Maura brings a wealth of experience, having coached at the middle school, club, and high
school levels. She is a passionate advocate for cultivating a lifelong love of running and
fitness, and she is deeply committed to helping young female athletes become their strongest,
fastest, and happiest selves. A graduate of Lehigh University, she holds multiple school
records and top performances in distance events.

Grant Hohne
Middle / High School Coach
Grant is an Exercise Science + Athletic Training Prep major at UCCS, a member of the UCCS
Cross Country and Track team, and an assistant coach for Monument Academy Middle School.

Laura Sturgeon
Cubs Coach
Laura is an avid runner and is immersed in the sport with three kids who also run. She has
experience coaching youth in both running and gymnastics. She enjoys the strong running
community and is passionate about helping kids grow in confidence and ability so they can
develop a lifelong love for running and all that comes with it.

The Bears TC Cubs running program helps young athletes build a strong running foundation through age-appropriate training, proper running mechanics, consistency, and habits that support healthy long-term growth in the sport. We want Cubs to move efficiently and safely as they gradually increase volume and intensity.
Most importantly, we want Cubs to be in a fun, positive, and safe environment where every athlete feels supported and encouraged. We value effort, teamwork, personal growth, and enjoyment of the sport as much as performance. The goal is to help young runners develop confidence, character, and a lifelong love for running.
